A few years ago, maybe in Fortune magazine or Forbes – I can’t remember, Bill Gates said that Ray Kurzweil was the smartest man in the world. When you get a chance google Kurzweil’s books, thoughts, and ideas of what’s to come with respect to technology. It’s mind blowing and predicated on the concept that the human mind really can’t forecast how technology is going to change things because we can only think linearly while technology is growing exponentially. Think about it. In just the last decade entire industries in the billions have been devastated and new ones born. What used to take decades (the “creative destruction” of capitalism), now takes years. Kurzweil and his colleagues have created an executive educational series at Singularity University to help thought leaders in technology, business leaders, and academia share ideas to learn about possible impacts on the future and what’s around the corner in the “adjacent possible”. It’s a $12K investment and I’d love to be a fly on the way.
